Lawn Bowls is possibly one of the most underrated sports, yet try it once and you’ll probably be hooked. Bowls is very social, has health benefits and is ideal for ALL ages and is a perfect activity for youngsters making it a great family pastime.
We have one of the finest lawn bowling greens in Thurrock and games are played in a very relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere.
If you haven’t yet tried lawn bowls, contact us to see if we can arrange a taster session for you. We have bowls available to borrow.
Lawn bowls is played outdoors between April and September then, as the seasons start to change we move indoors to play short mat bowls.
The Springhouse is affiliated to Bowls England, the Essex County Bowls association and Thurrock and District Bowls Association.

The Springhouse Short Mat Bowls section includes past international players and national champions. Short Mat Bowls is an excellent way of getting into Lawn Bowls, is very social and played indoors during the winter. With great health benefits, a very relaxed atmosphere and ideal for all ages we are sure you’ll enjoy short mat bowls. You may even be lucky enough to meet our ex-England Captain!
The Springhouse is affiliated to the England Short Mat Bowls Association, the Essex County Short Mat Bowls Association and South East Essex Short Mat Bowls League.
We meet and play every Thursday night from 7pm throughout the Winter (September to April).
We have bowls available that you can borrow – you will be made very welcome.

The Springhouse originally opened in 1950 and was then known as the Shell Club due to it being owned by Shell to provide a social and recreational club for employees working at the Shell Haven Refinery.
Primarily aimed at providing our members with sociable surroundings where they can comfortably enjoy each others company as well as great food and drink our tables are laid out accordingly.
Our staff are always happy to help and chef is very accommodating whenever possible.
